We are so excited to announce the newest addition to our Makerspace: Ozobots! As an introduction to coding, Ozobots are programmable mini robots that use color combinations to go from one place to another. Evo is the newest version of Ozobots that has wheels, sensors, sounds, interactions, and a series of lights that enhances user experience. Along with these robots, we also got super cool accessories like magnetic boards, color code magnets (basic, speed, & special moves), and color code markers.
Evo can be programmed two ways: Color Codes or OzoBlockly. Recommended for beginners or younger grades (TK-2nd), Color Codes is the device-free way of programming. Evo can follow drawn lines on white paper where different color combinations give Evo specific commands such as u-turn, spin in a circle, or go fast/slow. This is a great place to start as it introduces the students to programming basics.
Meanwhile, OzoBlockly is a web-based visual programming editor recommended for advanced programmers or upper grades (3rd-5th). Students can program with logic, variables, and functions to utilize Evo’s special features like light and proximity sensors. Because of the robot’s small size and programming ease, students can collaborate to program multiple Evos to interact, play a game, or solve a problem together.Want to bring these fun robots into your child’s classroom? Join us for an on-campus training on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 from 9am-10am in the Art Room. You must be cleared to volunteer before this date.
